Spiral galaxies have discs and arms; elliptical galaxies range from rounded to stretched shapes; irregular galaxies do not fit a neat outline. Lenticular galaxies sit between the classic spiral and elliptical forms.

Whirlpool is a spiral. NGC 4449 is irregular. Our current artwork collection favours richly detailed spirals and interacting galaxies. Interacting galaxies such as the Antennae show what happens when gravity reshapes entire systems.
